Mark C. Peters is the senior partner at Peters & Associates, CPAs, P.C. since September of 1985. He is a dedicated accountant who focuses his practice on a personal connection to clients and his strong desire to help small and medium-sized businesses succeed and prosper. Mark’s family has owned a printing company in Utica for over one hundred years, and growing up in an environment where the family business truly involved the entire family fostered Mark’s interest in assisting clients in successfully managing the financial aspects of their own businesses.

Mark’s educational background includes both Masters and Bachelor degrees in accounting. He received his CPA designation in 1981, and believes in continually updating and expanding his knowledge in the field by taking over 40 hours of income tax & accounting seminars each year. Mark also maintains memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants. Locally, he leads the “management of an accounting practice” group in Central New York.

Mark’s work experience began immediately after graduation from Binghamton University in 1979. He honed his tax, auditing, and financial planning skills and deepened his accounting knowledge working as a CPA at local accounting firms: Tornatore & Co.; Lavine, Lustig & Alpert; Testone, Marshall & Discenza; and Bush & Germain. In 1985, because he had developed a substantial client base and wanted to provide more personal client services, Mark began his own firm with a partner, Robert Kawa, in an office on North Salina Street. In 1989, Mark moved to the first of four locations in the James Street area, and joined Zane Gubman in a partnership which existed for five years.

While Peters & Associates, CPAs, P.C. prides itself on providing quality and professional services with a personal touch, Mark’s own personal specialized areas include accounting, taxes, and financial planning. His clients cover diverse fields including medicine, law, architecture, engineering, construction, retail, restaurants, real estate, and entertainment.

Mark is also active in community and civic affairs. He serves on the board of directors of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, is treasurer of the Presbytery of Cayuga-Syracuse, and is an alumni mentor to accounting students at Syracuse University. He serves as an alumni representative for Binghamton University’s School of Management and has been a trustee/treasurer of several Presbyterian churches.

Mark and his wife, Linda, have two daughters and two granddaughters. In his spare time, he enjoys running, reading, theater, travel, and watching S.U. sports.
